Trout
Lough Mask is renowned for its high quality wet-fly fishing, which extends for most of the season. May fly dapping is productive in taking trout above average weight. Dapping the daddy-long-legs or grasshopper can be very successful from July onwards. Duckfly hatches are best during the months of April. During the month of April, and later, hatches of the Large Lake Olives can be found in many bays, and hatches of Sooty and Golden Olives are pretty widespread over the season. Under normal conditions, the Mayfly season is best from May 20th to June 12th, with intermittent hatches occurring in later months. In late evenings in May and June, and later months too, hatches of Chironnomids occur in some bays where good angling is often experienced. June, July and August provide good angling to wetflies or by dapping the natural daddylonglegs and/ or grasshopper. Dry-fly fishing to Sedge patterns can take excellent bags when fished in late evenings. A variety of Sedge flies begin to hatch from mid-May onwards, and these make up a big percentage of the Lough's fly life. Occasionally, when falls of Red or Black Ant are heavy on the water in July, August and September, the trout feed extensively on them. Many other types of terrestrial flies appear on the Lough from time to time and can prove very attractive to trout.

Fishing on Lough Corrib, Lough Carra and Lough Conn can be arranged - if you wish to sample other fisheries in the region. For the lastest fishing reports for Lough Mask see www.wrfb.ie

Salmon and Sea Trout
This region has superb salmon waters with sea trout present in a number of Loughs and rivers. Fishing days can be pre-booked through Lough Mask Holidays on the Moy, Delphi, Errif, Beltra, Furnace, Carramore and many other fisheries (all the above are approximately 45 minutes drive from our houses).

Sea Angling
Ireland-West is fortunate because the area benefits from the warm water offshoot of the Gulf Stream. Known as the North Atlantic Drift, it is responsible for our temperate climate ensuring that it is never too cold in winter and never too hot in summer. This means that the waters around the coast provide a great variety of fish from both the cold and warmer water regions of the Atlantic. This great ocean has, over the millennia, etched territory with a mixture of deep rocky bays and sandy beaches. Boat anglers can also explore many offshore areas never before fished by rod and line, indeed when a bait is lowered to the sea bed, anything from a Pouting to a Porteagle is possible. A days sea fishing can be arranged from Westport, Newport, Achill, Belmullet or Clifden.
